PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

& REVIEWS

  • My Personal Experience of Pembrokeshire

Some of my earliest memories are of my holidays spent in Pembrokeshire. As a small child I used to stay in a house on the hill in St. Ishmaels or Tish as it is affectionately known by the locals. We would often go in the October half term and whatever the weather I remember days spent on beaches, fishing, rock pooling and crabbing.

I have clear memories of sitting outside in the garden of the Brook Inn (our local pub) in our wellies and cagoules, with a packet of crisps and a fizzy drink after a day full of adventure.

Another vivid memory is of my uncle marching all of us chidren down the steep narrow, leafy lane to Monk Haven, a favourite place of mine. Imaginations would run riot as we made our way through the woodland and the enormous old monastery wall, onto the beach where we played and gathered winkles until it was time for dinner. Monk Haven still holds its magical quality for me and is known by the children in my life as 'The Fairy Woods'!

Despite many trips abroad, my holidays in St. Ishmaels were by far my favourite.

I fell in love with Pembrokeshire and that is how I came to find Castle Cottage. As soon as I arrive there now I can relax. I love the position of the cottage and the beautiful garden brimming with plants and flowers. Sometimes I stand outside at night time and the silence and peacefulness still surprises me. At other times the garden is filled with the happy noise of family and friends. It is the perfect place for a summer barbeque and some alfresco dining.

The cottage is watched over by Stanley our resident seagull. You will often see him perched on the chimney stack overseeing our activities. He is not the only visitor to the garden in terms of wildlife. There are many birds that like to come and feed all year round. I have seen some pretty foxes, an owl, a heron, a buzzard and I often find little frogs and toads when I am gardening.

If you are lucky you might spot one or two of the badgers that live in the field at the back of the house who come to feed on the grassy bank.

The house itself has a warm feeling. It is so important to me that the house feels like a real home for my guests and I think I have achieved that. It is very well equipped, which I think is essential for a truly relaxing stay. The wood burner never fails to create a cosy atmosphere and warm you up on a wintry night.

I am extremely lucky to have great neighbours who are true locals and are always happy to help when they can.

This area of Pembrokeshire is unbelievably stunning and despite frequent visits I am often stopped in my tracks by its natural beauty.

I am sure anyone staying at Castle Cottage will have a wonderful time and make their own memories and I'm certain Pembrokeshire will work its charm on them just as it has on me. Enjoy!

“A fantastic cottage in a great location for all the family, including the dogs! The cottage was perfect in every way. It was home from home and had everything we needed, extremely well equipped. The children loved their bunk bed room and were amused by the chair in the kitchen!

We spent many nights in front of the open fire. Very peaceful and relaxing.

Long sandy beaches, great for walking and hidden secluded coves are in abundance. A fabulous holiday with great memories. Looking forward to our next visit already!”

“It is almost impossible to put into words how stunning this part of Wales is, we were truly amazed!

Castle Cottage is the perfect location, with everything you need within walking distance or a short drive. The cottage itself is gorgeous! It is a perfect holiday home as it has everything you would need, along with a fabulous garden. If you’re lucky you may catch sight of the family of badgers that gather out the back of the house!

Keeley left us full instructions on everything about the house, along with our own personal guide on everything the area has to offer (which is absolutely loads).

We were a group of 4 adults and 4 kids and there was more than enough space, we took the kids bikes as there are some stunning walks. We came across a cove that was so amazing it actually took our breath away!

I cant recommend the cottage and area more highly, and we would love to return in the near future. The cottage has an aura about it that makes you feel truly at home.”

“It was as if I had found my own breathtaking corner of nature. I enjoyed some invigorating walks on the spectacular coastal path.  The cottage provided a wonderful base, clearly forged with love. Whilst standing in the garden at dusk, the beauty of the silence overwhelmed me. I was lucky enough to glimpse the badgers from the cottage just as darkness fell. A perfect place for a nature lover like myself.”

    Carol Brocklehurst, Herts

“What a lovely stay we had, blessed with good weather. We have been many times before but having this wonderful base made such a difference. The girls have been having a go at surfing and we are planning to come back for surfing lessons. We were so impressed with the way that the house was so fully equipped and also having things already in the cupboard...great idea! Makes such a difference when one arrives. The wine was a very nice touch and more than welcome after a long journey. We will be back!”
